A family run business who opened it’s doors way back when Puero Viejo only had around 4 hotels in the entire town.
Cabinas Guarana began as the pursuit of a dream. A dream both Giovanna and her husband had which came to be throughout their travels and explorations. When they arrived in Puerto Viejo they felt that they had finally found a place where they could live a life that reconciles beauty, nature, human contact and a bit of art. Right in the heart of Puerto Viejo, a small Caribbean gem, full of colors and peace with happy people surrounded by explosive nature, Giovanna and her husband created their hotel. Full of colors that reflect the nuances of the Caribbean, enriching it with artistic details that compliment the environment.
The hotel was built around a lush tropical jungle garden, where all the rooms terraces with hammocks look out into.
The History of
In the canton of Talamanca, the original habitants were the Bri Bri and Cabecar Indians who mostly occupied the lush forest in the hills behind Puerto Viejo, rarely coming to the coast.
During the 1800s Afro-Caribbeans mainly originating from Jamaica, settled on the coast of Talamanca forming ‘Old Harbour’ which is now known as Puerto Viejo. A tiny fishing village which is now a blend of Afro-Caribbean culture with a mix of people from all over the world who fell in love with the towns Caribbean charm and have settled here over the years.
What kinda vibe?
Puerto Viejo and the surrounding area is quite unique compared to other parts of the country, it’s the only place in Costa Rica where you can get a real feel for the Caribbean culture. English is widely spoken and you can find everything this small colorful Caribbean paradise has to offer right within walking distance from our hotel.
Enjoying a traditional Afro-Caribbean meal is a must in one of the local restaurants in town, drinks at sunset at one of the beach bars in the heart of town is also a must, where you can relax and listen to some reggae or calypso music.
